During a speech at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, President Donald Trump reiterated his case for making Greenland a U.S. territory.

Trump’s speech at Davos comes days after he threatened a 10% tariff on all goods sent to the United States by eight NATO countries unless the U.S. is allowed to buy Greenland, a move that European leaders decried as blackmail.

“All the United States is asking for is a place called Greenland,” Trump said on Jan. 21. “All we’re asking for is to get Greenland, including the right title and ownership because you need the ownership to defend it.”

Trump continued, saying that the United States needed Greenland for national security reasons because it is the only country that could defend the Arctic island from enemies such as Russia and China.
