Ex-Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, who will again team with Tara Lipinski on their popular coverage of the Winter Olympics next month for NBC Sports, got thrown a sensitive question by a “Watch What Happens Live” viewer on Tuesday. (Watch the video below.)“When you were a professional skater, did you ever have a ‘Heated Rivalry’ type romance with a closeted athlete?” a woman asked, referring to the steamy Crave/HBO Max series about two gay hockey players secretly falling in love. “Good question!” Cohen chimed in.Weir praised the “impactful” drama and said he was so thankful for the show.Cohen wasn’t having it. “So, did you ever date a closeted athlete?” he asked.“So, I just completely talked around the question,” Weir replied.“Yes, you did,” Cohen shot back.Weir finally warmed up to revealing a bit.“So I certainly had my moments and, you know, I have to say, like, I carry a Birkin,” he said of the pricey handbag. “So I like an opposite that doesn’t carry a Birkin ... and that generally, like, goes a little closeted.”“I’m not gonna give you any names,” he added.“I don’t expect you to,” Cohen shot back.“I don’t want you to out anyone.”Weir, a U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Famer, had not publicly come out when he competed in the 2006 and 2010 Winter Games. He wed lawyer Victor Voronov in late 2011 and the couple split in 2014.CORRECTION: This story has been amended to accurately reflect where “Heated Rivalry” can be streamed.Close
