Ford is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles for an engine block malfunction that could result in fire.
According to two notices reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Jan. 15, the recalls cover 116,672 cars and an additional 2,633 engine block heaters. The recalled Escape, Focus and Lincoln models range in make year from 2013 to 2019.
The affected cars have an engine block heater that may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short-circuit when the block heater is plugged in, increasing the risk of fire.
Customers with affected vehicle may notice coolant spots on the driveway or garage floor, a loss of cabin heat, overheating, smoking or a warning indicator for low coolant levels. No accident or injury has been reported linked to the malfunction, according to Ford.
