hat is the true ambition behind the "Board of Peace," which Donald Trump first announced in September 2025, as part of his plan to end the nightmare in Gaza? The question is worth asking since the committee's charter was revealed by the press on January 18. While its original mission, rebuilding Gaza, is not explicitly mentioned, the charter presents the Board of Peace as "an international organization that seeks to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict."
Is the objective to establish a "Trump League of Nations"? As the board's chairman, Trump would have significant powers within it, starting with the privilege of choosing its members and levying a $1-billion entry fee. Among the first invitees were Trump debtors, like Argentine President Javier Milei, admirers, such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and leaders whose idea of "stability" is rooted in a disregard for democracy – a term that is not even mentioned in the charter, for that matter. They include leaders such as Russia's Vladimir Putin and Belarus's Alexander Lukashenko.
Trump also plans to rely on an executive board made up of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, one of his donors, and members of his administration. Former British prime minister Tony Blair will be the only non-American member.
