Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A federal judge in the District of Columbia denied House Democrats' motion for oversight access to Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities.
U.S. District Court Judge Jia Cobb on Monday denied a motion filed by Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Colo., and other House Democrats to force ICE officials to show why their refusal to allow several House lawmakers to immediately access an ICE facility in Minneapolis does not violate a Dec. 17 court order in a similar case.
Neguse and the others asked the court to stop ICE and Homeland Security officials from enforcing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's Jan. 8 memorandum requiring at least a seven-day notice for lawmakers to visit ICE facilities.
"Plaintiffs use the wrong procedural vehicle to challenge the Jan. 8, 2026, memorandum and policy announced therein, which is a new agency action not subject to the court's prior stay order," Cobb said in her four-page ruling.
