Former Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader V. Muraleedharan has demanded that former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran take responsibility for the alleged Sabarimala gold theft.

The BJP leader added that the truth would emerge only if a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe is or.

Leading a BJP demonstration to the residence of Mr. Surendran, the MLA of Kazhakuttam Assembly constituency in Thiruvananthapuram, on Tuesday Mr. Muraleedharan said the ongoing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being deliberately sabotaged by various quarters.

Despite the scientific analysis conducted at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) confirming tampering and substitution of gold from the Sabarimala temple, no action has been taken against the former Minister who had a clear role in the functioning of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB).

According to him, the ongoing probe has stalled after the arrests of two former TDB presidents. He also accused the government of attempting to shield the culprits and added that the suspected loot was carried out with the support of both the CPI(M) and the Congress. Cautioning that a probe conducted under the State government would neither be fair nor transparent, Mr. Muraleedharan alleged that all accused would be released after some days and the case would eventually fade away without any clarity.
