Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) wasted no time in making sweeping changes to the University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors. On Saturday, her first official day in office, she appointed ten new members to the institution’s governing board.

The appointments came just one day after Spanberger had asked five board members at the University of Virginia, all of whom had been appointed by her predecessor, Republican Glenn Youngkin, to resign. Each of them did so.

The board already had five other open spots because Democrats, who held the majority in the Virginia General Assembly, had blocked several of Gov. Youngkin’s appointees. As a result, Spanberger had an immediate opportunity to overhaul the board. On Saturday she took it.
