Fatalities in pedestrians-related road accidents last year rose to 649 from 584 in 2024, data from Delhi Traffic Police has shown.

The total number of accidents where a pedestrian was injured or killed also saw an increase - from 2,184 in 2024 to 2,192 in 2025.

According to the police, pedestrians remain among the most vulnerable of road users due to speeding, poor lane discipline and failure to yield right of way.

‘Offending vehicles not identified in most cases’

“Apart from the deaths, as many as 1,738 pedestrians sustained injuries. This is a significant number. Out of 771 fatal crashes this year, the vehicle responsible remained unidentified in 330 cases,” said Satya Vir Katara, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
