Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Manchester City is finalizing a transfer agreement for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner confirmed Friday.

Sources told ESPN, the BBC and The Athletic that City will pay a $26.8 million fee for Guehi. The defender's contract was set to expire this summer. Guehi is expected to sign a 5 1/2-year deal with the Sky Blues.

"My latest understanding is that the deal with Marc is in the final stages," Glasner told reporters. "... The result is that Marc doesn't play tomorrow for us."

Guehi, 25, joined the Eagles in 2021. He previously played for Chelsea and on loan with Swansea City. Guehi also made 26 appearances for England's national team.

"Everybody wanted Marc to stay forever as Crystal Palace captain and staying here, but reality is different," Glasner said.
