The Trump administration will announce plans for large tech companies to finance the construction of new power plants on Friday, to address rising electricity demand fueled by AI data centers, according to Bloomberg.

Trump and a group of governors from states including Pennsylvania and Ohio plan to push the nation’s largest grid operator, PJM Interconnection, to hold an emergency power auction.

The auction would require tech companies and hyperscalers to help pay for new power plants needed to meet surging electricity demand from AI data centers, which has led to cost increases for consumers.
