Sherrone Moore was not fired from his job as Michigan football coach solely for engaging in what the university deemed an "inappropriate relationship" with a female staffer, as the school's statement on Dec. 10 said.
In the termination letter issued to Moore from athletic director Warde Manuel on Dec. 10 – obtained by the Free Press under Michigan's Freedom of Information Act – Michigan also ended Moore's stint as coach for "Dishonesty During Investigation."
Moore received a one-page letter from athletic director Warde Manuel the afternoon he was fired. The letter, informing Moore that he was "terminated for cause, effective immediately," alleged that the coach "engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member," which violated his contract in failing to follow the university's code of conduct as it pertains to "Supervisor-Employee Relationships." (Moore later admitted to the relationship with the staffer to police, per court records.)

The letter also alleged that Moore lied during the university's investigation into said relationship, which was triggered by "hotline reports," according to the letter.
