Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A federal judge ruled Thursday that a large offshore wind project, blocked by President Donald Trump, can continue construction.
Judge Carl Nichols of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said the Interior Department's stop-work order for Empire Wind -- which is 60% complete -- would likely cause irreparable harm. He granted a preliminary injunction allowing Empire Wind to continue construction.
Empire Wind's parent company, Equinor, said in a statement that it would "now focus on safely restarting construction activities" at Empire Wind and address any safety concerns.
The project is one of five whose leases were suspended by the Trump administration in December. Those projects are Revolution Wind, Vineyard Wind 1, Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, Sunrise Wind and Empire Wind. The projects are in New England, Virginia and New York.
