Jan. 14 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump's first choice to serve as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia is defending her use of the title despite a judge ruling she was unconstitutionally appointed.
Lindsey Halligan's attorneys filed a response to a judge's order on Tuesday, saying the court is wrong in accusing her of misrepresenting herself as a U.S. attorney.
U.S. District Judge David Novak ordered Halligan to explain her continued use of the U.S. attorney title within seven days of last Wednesday.
"The bottom line is that Ms. Halligan has not 'misinterpreted' anything and the Court is flat wrong to suggest that any change to the Government's signature block is warranted in this or any other case," Halligan's response said.
Halligan, a former attorney for Trump, has continued to serve in the Department of Justice after U.S. District Judge Cameron Currie ruled in November that she was never eligible to hold the position of U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
