London’s per capita homicide rate is at its lowest since records began, according to data released by the city’s Metropolitan Police on Monday (January 12, 2026).
The data are a strong rebuttal to global perceptions of London having become an unsafe city.
“The best way to deal with the perception of crime is to deal with crime,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan told the foreign press during a Monday briefing call.
There were 97 homicides in 2025, down 11% from 2024, as per the new data. This was a new low since 2014, and an all-time low number per capita, with London’s population having increased by more than half a million since 2014.
