WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump was a little distracted as he sat down for a big meeting with oil company executives.

"Wow, what a view," he said, staring out the window at the White House as the Jan. 9 sit-down began.

The president was marveling at the ongoing construction of a $400 million ballroom following the abrupt demolition of the East Wing in October of last year.

He wasn't the only one whose attention was captured by the spectacle. Vice President JD Vance, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were also pointing at and commenting on the construction as the event started. They were gathered for a meeting with the heads of major oil companies, including Chevron and ConocoPhillips, about the U.S. intervention in Venezuela.
