The New York City Police Department is investigating two fatal shootings involving local police that took place just several hours apart on Jan. 8, including one at a hospital involving a knife-wielding man.
The first shooting took place inside a barricaded Brooklyn hospital room, NYPD Assistant Chief Charlie Minch, chief of patrol for Brooklyn South, told reporters during a news conference, and the second shooting took place in the West Village and involved a vehicle crash.
"In these tragic cases, as with every police-involved shooting, the NYPD will conduct an exhaustive investigation and review," NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch wrote in a post on X referencing both shootings.
Tisch said officers saved patients and staff at a hospital from an armed and emotionally disturbed man who was threatening to kill them.
"Make no mistake about it: the people trapped in the room with the armed and violent subject were in imminent danger," the commissioner wrote.
