Oregon Officials, Community Leaders Present United Front Following Portland ShootingPortland and Oregon officials stood with community leaders during a Thursday evening press conference in the aftermath of federal agents shooting and wounding two people.Portland Police Chief Bob Day said that police responded to the shooting on Thursday when “a man who had been shot was calling and requesting help.”State and local leaders, including Portland Mayor Keith Wilson and Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, called for accountability and an investigation into the shooting.“When the administration talks about using full force, we are seeing what it means on our streets. The consequences are not abstract. They are felt in hospital rooms and living rooms, in the quiet moments when families try to make sense of what happened, what is happening,” Wilson said. “We know what the federal government says happened here. There was a time when we could take them at their word. That time has long passed.” Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek called the shooting “another terrible, unnecessary, violent event instigated by the reckless agenda of the Trump administration.”“While the details of the incident remain limited, one thing is very clear: when a president endorses tearing families apart and attempts to govern through fear other than shared values, you foster an environment of lawlessness and recklessness,” Kotek continued.See All UpdatesClose
