A book on the life of President Droupadi Murmu was released by Lakshmamma, a woman sanitation worker who cleans the roads at Andhra University, in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Titled, ‘Agni Sarassulo Vikasinchina Kamalam Droupadi Murmu’, the book is authored by Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, a former Member of Parliament and president of the Viswa Hindi Parishad.

The title metaphorically reflects Ms. Murmu’s rise from adversity to the highest constitutional office in the country.

The book release function was held in an unconventional, yet evocative setting — under a tree on the Andhra University campus. The choice of venue and the person chosen to release the book underscored the author’s message of social equality, dignity of labour, and inclusiveness.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Lakshmi Prasad said that Ms. Droupadi Murmu’s life journey was an inspiration to millions, especially women, tribal communities, and the marginalised sections of society. He said that asking a sanitation worker to release the book was a conscious decision to reflect the values that Ms. Murmu herself represents — humility, perseverance, and respect for all forms of work.
