At least 2 people are dead and six others are injured after a shooting outside a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building in Salt Lake City, authorities said.
At about 7:36 p.m. local time on Jan. 7, officers responded to a reported shooting outside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, said Salt Lake City Police Department PIO Glen Mills, according to KTVX. Shots were fired after an altercation broke out while a funeral was taking place in the building, the television station reported.
Two people were killed, and at least six others were injured, including three in critical condition, according to police. During a news conference, Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said all the victims are "of adult age."
Dozens of people were attending the funeral when the shooting occurred, Redd said. Investigators were working on interviewing witnesses and following leads, he added.
"The suspects are still outstanding, but our officers have obtained solid leads and are working to locate those involved," police said in an earlier statement. Redd noted that investigators were still determining if there was one suspect or multiple suspects.
