Tony Dokoupil, the new anchor for “CBS Evening News,” faced criticism for “both sides-ing” a report on the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol that left 140 police officers injured and five people dead.
Dokoupil — chosen for the role by CBS News’ new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who has led outlets peddling right-wing misinformation — was called out for his summary of events marking the fifth anniversary of the insurrection, after a 17-second clip was shared on X.
“President Trump today accused Dems of failing to prevent the attack on the Capitol, while House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries accused the president of ‘whitewashing it,’” the journalist said on Tuesday.
