A committee headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Pandavapura Sub-Division in Mandya district will soon begin survey work to clear encroachments on KRS backwaters.
Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar, who chaired a meeting of the committee in Mandya on January 6, instructed officials to take necessary action for the protection of the backwaters from encroachment.
The survey work was ordered after A.B. Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, Srirangapatna MLA, and Dinesh Gooli Gowda, MLC, in a letter to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who also holds the Water Resources portfolio, highlighted the increasing instances of encroachment there and sought their removal.
Mr. Shivakumar issued instructions to immediately remove the encroachments and erect boundary stones, after which a committee headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Pandavapura Sub-Division was constituted.
The meeting chaired by the Mandya Deputy Commissioner on January 6 took note of the fact that KRS dam is one of the State’s major water resources and is essential for drinking water supply, agriculture, and power generation for several districts, including Mysuru and Mandya.
