Eight European leaders have warned Trump to dial down threats to take over Greenland in the aftermath of capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
A statement, signed by the leaders of France, Germany and the U.K., among others, comes after Trump said the U.S. “absolutely” needs the semi-autonomous Danish territory, and White House adviser Stephen Miller signaled the mineral-rich Arctic island could be taken by force.
The rallying cry does not make direct reference to the Trump administration threats, but underlines the importance of NATO in keeping “the Arctic safe and to deter adversaries,” and references that Denmark and the U.S. are both members of the defense alliance.
