Michael Rapaport is planning to run for New York City mayor – and he's getting his bid in early.

The comedian, 55, told listeners during a recent episode of his "I Am Rapaport" podcast that he planned to campaign for the top governing seat in the Big Apple. Kicking off the Jan. 5 episode with a riff, the "Cop Land" actor said: "My name is Michael Rapaport, a.k.a. Mayor Rapaport. Mr. Mayor Rapaport."

"Let me tell you something, guys, girls, women, children of all ages. 2025 was crazy, and I don't see it getting any … calmer or cooler in 2026, the way things started," he went on to say. "That's why I'm running for mayor."

Rapaport, who has been vocal in his opposition to Zohran Mamdani, who was sworn in as the city's newest mayor on Jan. 1, centered his announcement around his ire for the Democratic Socialist. Since Mamdani pulled to the front of the pack during the 2025 Democratic primary, the actor has employed his megaphone, both on his own podcast and to other outlets, to critique, sometimes crudely, his candidacy.
