Peddapalli Congress MLA Ch. Vijaya Ramana Rao urged the State government to conduct a detailed probe into the construction of check dams across several streams and rivulets in the State during the BRS government, to ascertain the quality and identify discrepancies in their design.

Expressing concerns over the alleged poor quality of check dams constructed across the Manair River and Hussainmia stream in Peddapalli district during the Zero Hour on the fourth day of the Winter Session of the Assembly on Monday, the MLA claimed that 11 out of 13 check dams had either been washed away or severely damaged due to poor quality or design flaws.

“The BRS government spent about ₹1,000 crore to ₹1,200 crore on the construction of these check dams to plunder sand. There is a need to conduct a vigilance probe or an inquiry by a retired judge,” he said, requesting Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to order an investigation.

Responding to this, the Minister said that the government had already ordered a vigilance probe following a representation by Manthani MLA and IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu. He added that the government would take steps to ascertain the quality of the check dams.
