Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Monday (January 5, 2026) said that the goal of the special intensive revision (SIR) is to ensure that “no eligible Indian citizen is left out of the electoral roll”.
The CEC, who was on a two-day visit to Jharkhand, said that a “clean” electoral roll is the foundation of democracy and hailed booth-level officers (BLOs) as the “foundation” of such rolls.
A wider SIR has momentum but it is still a test case
Mr. Kumar said that during his visit to Deoghar and Dumka districts, he interacted with BLOs and exuded confidence that the SIR in Jharkhand will be smooth and transparent. He said that BLOs in Jharkhand are ready for the exercise.
“Although it has not yet been announced in Jharkhand, the knowledge of the entire process and the preparations made by the BLOs indicate that during the SIR in the State, the goal of ensuring that no eligible Indian citizen is left out of the electoral roll will be achieved,” he said.
