The Caribbean airspace was closed over the weekend after the United States carried out an operation in Venezuela to take the president and his wife, Nicolas Maduro and Cilia Flores, into custody.

Flights were allowed to resume at midnight Saturday, but a days worth of cancelled and rerouted flights, when it was unclear when the flights could continue, meant airlines couldn't get their schedules back on track immediately.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, a Delta hub, was impacted throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, 562 flights were delayed and 92 were cancelled, the majority of which were Delta flights.

An additional 580 flights were delayed on Sunday, and 71 were ultimately cancelled.
