President Donald Trump said the U.S. will “run” Venezuela until a “transition” can take place following a military operation.

“We’re going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition,” Trump told reporters during a Saturday morning press conference.

Trump was referring to a large-scale military operation that saw the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The two face drug and gun charges after an indictment in New York.

“They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts,” U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement.

Trump posted a photo of Maduro on his Truth Social page following the capture. Maduro’s eyes and ears are covered in the photo.
