That is why Israel's blow to the work of international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), which have, for months, filled the gap left by Israel's abandonment of its responsibilities as an occupying power in Gaza under dire conditions, can only be condemned.

Israel halts the work of humanitarian NGOs in occupied Palestinian territories

Since the massacres of October 7 carried out by Hamas and the destruction of civilian infrastructure by the Israeli army, these NGOs – 37 of which have been banned from operating since January 1 – have helped feed and care for more than 2 million people. Their extraordinary dedication has averted the worst, at the cost of more than 500 humanitarian workers' lives lost to Israeli bombings along with tens of thousands of children, women and elderly people.
