Jan. 2 (UPI) -- N.C. State's C.J. Bailey, who could have become one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal, will return to the Wolfpack, he said Friday.

Bailey made the announcement on social media. The junior quarterback completed 68.8% of his passes for 3,105 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions over 13 appearances this season.

He also ran for 215 yards and six touchdowns off 89 carries.

Bailey helped the Wolfpack (8-5) beat the Memphis Tigers 31-7 in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 19 in Tampa, Fla. He threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for another score, in the lopsided victory.

The Wolfpack ranked 45th out of 136 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision teams in points per game this season. They were tied for 62nd in yards per game (392.2), with the No. 48 passing offense and 80th rushing attack.
