Dalit organisations will take out a silent march on January 5 condemning the honour killing in Inam Veerapur village of Hubballi taluk in which of Manya Doddamani passed away.

Addressing presspersons along with other Dalit leaders in Hubballi on Monday, Internal Reservation Agitation Committee member B.R. Bhaskar Prasad said that thousands of activists will participate in the silent procession, wearing black armbands.

The march will begin from the Siddharoodha Math and culminate in a public meeting at Nehru Maidan where an appeal will be made to society to prevent such incidents in the future.

Mr. Bhaskar Prasad said that the incident reflects the failure of the State government, the district administration and the Social Welfare Department to protect Dalits.

He said that the rally is not intended to project the issue as party versus party, caste versus caste, or organisation versus organisation and appealed to people across political affiliations, castes and communities to participate in it. He also appealed to traders to voluntarily close their establishments and join the protest, clarifying that there will be no compulsion to do so.
