British professional boxer Anthony Joshua suffered minor injuries in a car crash in Nigeria on Monday that left two other passengers dead, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 11 a.m. local time along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, local officials said. It comes just days after Joshua’s highly publicized heavyweight victory over YouTube star Jake Paul in Miami on Dec. 19.
The Ogun State Police Command wrote in a statement that Joshua was seated in the rear of a Lexus SUV at the time of the crash and received medical attention for minor injuries. Two other passengers died at the scene. The status of the driver is unclear.
The Federal Road Safety Corps also said in a statement that the Lexus jeep was speeding “beyond the legally prescribed speed limit” when it crashed into a stationary truck.
In a separate X post, Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, shared a photo of the crash and noted that ambulances had been called to the scene. In the image, Joshua could be seen standing at the crash site.
