The All Women Police Station (AWPS), Kelambakkam has apprehended a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old juvenile for allegedly raping a woman with an intellectual disability.
The arrested youth has been identified as D Sakthivel (21), a sewage treatment plant operator. The other suspect is a 17-year-old daily wager. Both are from the same area in Chengalpet district.
Police sources said the girl, who has a 50% intellectual disability, resides with her family in a village near Chengalpet. As her mother leaves for work, the survivor is alone at home.
Upon inquiry, she reportedly disclosed that the duo were frequently visiting the house and sexually assaulting her over the past month.
On a complaint from the mother, the police took up investigation and arrested Sakthivel and the minor boy. Sakthivel was remanded in judicial custody on Monday, while the minor was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to a government observation home.
