The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) interrogated actor Jayasurya for several hours at its Kochi office over his suspected links to the alleged multi-crore Save Box Bidding App investment fraud.

The agency examined whether Jayasurya, who had reportedly served as a brand ambassador for the app, had any financial dealings with its promoters. The actor had also been questioned earlier on December 24.

The case dates back to 2023, when the Thrissur East Police arrested Swadiq Rahim, a native of Thrissur and owner of the Save Box App, on charges of allegedly defrauding investors of crores of rupees. Rahim was suspected of maintaining close ties with several Malayalam film actors.

Save Box, launched in 2019 with much fanfare in the presence of prominent members of the film fraternity, was touted as India’s first online auction-based investment platform. Rahim allegedly raised massive funds from the public by promising high returns through a range of ventures, including auction-based sales of electronic gadgets, franchises for a delivery service named Save Box Express (modelled on Amazon), funding for start-ups, and even the launch of what was projected as India’s first crypto agency.

Complaints began to surface when investors allegedly failed to receive the promised returns, eventually leading to Rahim’s arrest.
