Zohran Mamdani will be sworn in as mayor of New York City just after the ball drops in Times Square and will celebrate among his supporters on Jan. 1.
"We're already so heartened with the response from New Yorkers who understand it's not my success, it's our success. It's not my administration, it's our administration. Similarly, it's not my inauguration, it's for all of us," Mamdani told reporters, CBS New York reported.
About 4,000 ticketed guests will witness the public swearing-in at City Hall in New York City, following the official ceremony just after midnight. The ceremony has been dubbed "Inauguration of a New Era."
The ceremony will be flanked by a "Block Party on Broadway" public viewing event that will take place in the Canyon of Heroes along Broadway.
