The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Leela Palace, Udaipur, to pay ₹10 lakh as compensation to a Chennai-based couple after holding the hotel guilty of deficiency in service and intrusion of privacy by its housekeeping staff. The complainant, an advocate practising in Chennai, had booked a stay at the hotel for January 26, 2025. The room was booked at a cost of ₹55,500.

According to the complaint, a housekeeping staff member unlawfully entered the occupied room while the complainant and her husband were inside the washroom. Despite the couple shouting “No service,” the staff member entered and allegedly peeped through the broken washroom door.

The couple immediately reported the incident to the reception but alleged that there was no prompt or appropriate response.

The District Consumer Redressal Forum, Chennai (North) headed by D.Gopinath held that allowing staff to enter an occupied room amounted to serious deficiency in service.

The forum ordered payment of ₹10 lakh as compensation and ₹10,000 as litigation costs within two months.
