The authorities of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) have said that there will be no loss of land due to the proposed cricket stadium project planned in association with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) on the main campus of the varsity at Kalady near here.
The KCA will only have land use rights, said a release quoting Vice-Chancellor (V-C) K.K. Geethakumary issued here on Saturday (December 27, 2025). The Syndicate had decided to go ahead with the project subject to further discussions and agreement. The authorities had approached the proposal with an aim to step up the prospects of its Department of Physical Education and to turn the varsity into a centre of excellence in sports, it said.
The V-C accused the Save University Campaign Committee (SUCC) of launching a misleading campaign against the project.
SUCC chairman R.S. Sasikumar accused the authorities and a few members of the Syndicate of aiding their commercial interests by joining hands with a private agency like the KCA. He alleged in a release that the project deviated from the objectives behind the formation of the varsity, which included offering courses and conducting research in areas like Sanskrit studies, arts, philosophy, and social science.
