Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday (December 27, 2025) questioned why the Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed micro observers in West Bengal when it had the least number of voter deletions in the special intensive revision (SIR) process.
Based on previous claims by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), where they alleged that there are over one crore “infiltrators” in West Bengal, Mr. Banerjee, the second-in-command in the Trinamool, asked the list of infiltrators to be published by the ECI.
SIR hearings begin in Bengal, 32 lakh 'unmapped' voters to be covered
“According to the draft electoral rolls data published by the EC, Tamil Nadu had 12.57% voter deletions, Gujarat had 9.95% deletions, Chhattisgarh had 8.76% deletions, Kerala had 6.65% deletions, in West Bengal the number was the lowest at 5.79%...still they appointed micro observers here not in the other States where there were massive deletions,” Mr. Banerjee added.
