Highlighting a remark made by the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari in front of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission on Friday (December 26, 2025), the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday (December 27) said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had indulged in “hate speech”, and called for “mass murder” and “ethnic cleansing”.
“The way Israel taught a lesson in Gaza, the government of the country which is run in the interest of 100 crore Hindus should also teach a lesson [to Bangladesh] like Operation Sindoor,” the BJP leader was heard saying outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata on Friday (December 26).
“@BJP4India has perfected HATE and INTOLERANCE into an art form. Their venomous loudmouth, @SuvenduWB, just bared his fascist fangs again, spewing genocidal bile by proclaiming that India must teach Muslims a lesson like Israel taught Gaza,” West Bengal’s ruling party said on social media.
The TMC termed the remarks “naked hate speech, a bloodthirsty call for mass murder and ethnic cleansing”.
“No FIR (First Information Report). No arrest. No prosecution. No UAPA [Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act] slapped on this Hitler-in-the-making,” the TMC said, adding that the people of the State should remember his statement when Mr. Adhikari “dangles Humayun Kabir as a carrot for Muslim votes”.
