Dec. 26 (UPI) -- The Michigan Wolverines are finalizing an agreement to hire Utah football head coach Kyle Whittingham as their new coach.
Sources told Yahoo Sports, the Detroit Free Press and NBC about the pact Friday. Whittingham, 66, announced earlier this month that he would step down from his role with the Utes.
Whittingham posted a 177-88 record, with 17 bowl appearances, over his two decades with Utah He led the team to a 10-2 mark in 2025. The Utes will play Nebraska on Wednesday in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Whittingham started at Utah in 1994 and took over as head coach in 2004, becoming the winningest coach in school history.
He would take over for former Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore, who was fired earlier this month after evidence emerged that he was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
