The officials have ascertained that samba crop cultivated on 3.025% of the total cultivated area of 3,25,066 acres in Thanjavur district qualifies for compensation.
District Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam said at the monthly agriculture grievance meeting held here on Friday that the survey of crop loss suffered by farmers due to northeast monsoon rain in October and during this month, conducted by the Agriculture and Revenue department officials revealed that 33% crop loss was recorded on 9,833 acres only. A proposal for declaration and disbursement of compensation for these crops had been forwarded to the State government, she said.
Stating that ₹28 lakhs had been released as compensation towards summer crop loss on 455 acres because of rains in May during 2024-25 season, the Collector said another ₹1.57 crore had been extended to farmers who lost their crop raised on 2,996 acres due to rain in September and ₹1.60 crore as compensation for crop loss on 2,325 acres due to the Cyclone Fengul from October to December.
Further, steps had been taken to disburse ₹21.40 crore as compensation towards the crop loss (recorded on about 44,600 acres) suffered by farmers due to the 2024-25 northeast monsoon rains, she added.
