Christmas was celebrated with religious fervour in Tiruchi and other districts in the region on Thursday with congregational service and special prayer.
Though the weather was cold with the temperature hovering around 23 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night, enthusiastic Christians, including elders, women, and children attended the midnight special mass at various churches. Midnight mass and special prayer was held at churches across the region, including Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Mary’s Cathedral and Holy Redeemer’s Basilica. They drew large crowds.
The people, who attended the special congregation and mass in Tiruchi, exchanged greetings and pleasantries with one another. Many chose to visit their friends and family members and distributed sweets and cakes as a mark of exchanging joy and happiness.
Churches were illuminated and colourfully-decorated on the occasion of Christmas.
