BJP members took out a protest march in Belagavi on Wednesday against the hate speech prevention Bill that was passed in the Winter Session of the Assembly in Belagavi recently.Protestors gathered at the Rani Channamma Circle and marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They raised slogans against the Congress government and demanded that the Bill be withdrawn.They said that the Bill violates the basic principle of freedom of expression that is guaranteed by the Constitution. They accused the Congress of taking away civil rights of citizens.They said that the Bill is part of a Congress conspiracy to target its political opponents.“The Congress government is taking away freedom of expression. This is an act to silence those who speak against the government. The definition of hate speech in the Bill is also unclear,” they said.They said that it can make any common man an easy target for officers. They submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the Deputy Commissioner’s office and urged him (Governor) to reject consent to the Bill.Leaders Sanjay Patil, M.B.
