As many as 20 armed cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) have laid down arms before the Odisha Police, which recently stepped up its efforts to mainstream Maoists before April next year.

A Divisional Committee Member (DCM) and six Area Committee Members (ACMs) were among those who surrendered. Among them were 10 women cadres. They surrendered in the presence of Odisha Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania at the Malkangiri district police premises.

The surrendered Maoists also handed over to the police one AK-47 rifle, two INSAS rifles, one 7.62 mm self-loading rifle, three .303 rifles, two single-shot rifles, 150 rounds of live ammunition, nine magazines, 20 kg of explosives, 13 improvised explosive devices, and other materials.

The surrendered cadres included the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) DCM and commander Linge alias Muye Madkam; ACM and commander Baman Madkam, ACMs Sukka Muchaki, Aitu Aulami, Kosa Kabasi, Bati Madkam alias Anju, Jogi Muchaki, Rita Podiam, Jogi Sodi, Bhime Kalmu, Mangli Banjami, Joga Muchaki, Adame Muchaki, Madhvi Kosa, Kunjam Ura, Mada Madhvi, Muchaki Adama, Deba Madhvi and Arjun Madhvi.

Sagar alias Sanna Punem and Someya Midiam, members of the Andhra–Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee, and Anila alias Budri Midiam of the Gadchiroli Area Committee also surrendered before the police.
