Three blackbucks were found killed by gunshots at Kallenahalli village in Kadur taluk of Chikkamagaluru on December 23.

The animals were found dead on private agricultural land close to Basur Amrit Mahal Kaval, a conservation reserve known for blackbucks. The animals, two female and one male, are reportedly below the age of two.

Upon finding the animals, locals informed forest officials. The officers visited the spot along with veterinarians. They found the pellets, confirming the gunshots that killed the animals.

Ramesh Babu, Deputy Conservator of Forests of Chikkamagaluru, told The Hindu, “We have conducted the postmortem and collected the samples for further examination. Further, we will register a wildlife report and hold the investigation to identify the culprits responsible for the deaths.
