Ajitha Nandakumar and Suneela Sibi will take turns in serving as chairperson, each holding the post for two and a half years, of Maradu municipality.

Congress councillors Jinson Peter and P.P. Santhosh will share the post of vice chairperson for a designated period of time. The decision was taken at the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting held on Sunday (December 21, 2025). It is learnt that internal party dynamics between factions in Congress have led to a power-sharing arrangement for the posts of chairperson and vice chairperson.

Considering his seniority, Mr. Peter may get a term of three and a half years as vice chairperson, while Mr. Santhosh will hold the post for the rest of the term.

Ms. Nandakumar will assume office first. A senior leader, she has been active in the political scene. She had served as municipal chairperson for a period of six months in 2015. She was also the chairperson of the works standing committee from 2020 to 2023.

Ms. Sibi, who won from ward 17 (Kundannoor), served as chairperson for around two years during the 2015-2020 term. Ms. Siby is presently the district president of the Mahila Congress and formerly its State general secretary.
