NETFLIX – On demand – Series
Let's be honest: It has been a long time since reviews of Emily in Paris tried to determine whether the series is "worth seeing." The very premise of the show – created by Darren Star and built on a scaffolding of tourism and advertising – strips it of any genuine artistic ambition and the expectations that might come with it. Besides, watching mediocre shows for the sole pleasure of criticizing them – so-called "hate-watching" – is hardly out of the ordinary, and let the first among us who has never done so cast the first stone. Finally, Emily in Paris is not really a series in the traditional sense, as any real evolution of its characters seems doomed to fail.
From 2022 'Emily in Paris' review: Time for a season of 'Emily out of Paris'
Her poor French after several years in Paris is proof enough. So is her ongoing struggle to find professional balance alongside her formidable boss, Sylvie Grateau (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), with whom she has a relationship that fluctuates between mentorship and rivalry. And then, there is her inability to settle down once and for all with someone, even though, between her ex, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), and Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), the handsome and wealthy Italian she met at the end of the previous season, she has had no shortage of opportunities.
