President Donald Trump has received another participation award, this time having his name added to the Kennedy Center building.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday that the board “unanimously” voted to rename the performing arts center to the Trump-Kennedy Center, though not everyone on the board seemed to agree.
“For the record, this was not unanimous,” Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) posted on social media. “I was muted on the call and not allowed to speak or voice my opposition to this move.”
Trump claimed Thursday that the decision was “brought up” by the board members. This year, the president has ousted board members and replaced others with his supporters.
“This was brought up by one of the very distinguished board members, and they voted on it, and there’s a lot of board members, and they voted unanimously,” Trump told reporters. “So I was very honored.”
