A delegation from the Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP) has advocated measures to implement sustainable fisheries in the Union Territory during a recent meeting with Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.
The delegation from Chennai office of BOBP-Inter Governmental Organisation led by its director P. Krishnan held discussions pertaining to the development of smart and integrated fishing harbour in Karaikal, the economic progress of Puducherry fishermen, and the improvement of their livelihoods, a press note said.
The BOBP-IGO serves as a think-tank advising governments in the Bay of Bengal region on transboundary and contemporary national issues of the member countries concerning fisheries management.
Among those who participated in the meeting were Speaker R. Selvam, Public Works Minister K. Lakshminarayanan, Government Whip V. Aroumougame, R. Bhaskar, MLA, D. Manikandan, Fisheries Secretary and A. Mohamed Ismail, Director of Fisheries. The BOBP team, included Rajdeep Mukherjee, policy analyst, S. Jayaraj (publications), S. Kulasekaran (fishing harbour engineering), V. Vanitha, (Artificial Intelligence) and Bharathkumar (Information Technology).
