The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) allotted land to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for Phase 4 of the Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor project, Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena’s office said in a release issued on Tuesday. Mr. Saxena approved the allotment, clearing a long-pending hurdle for the construction of a viaduct between Rithala and Rohini Sector 25.
The proposal had remained stalled for several years, it read.
The move is expected to speed up work on the much-awaited metro line and give a push to the planned development of Narela as an education, residential and sports hub, along with improved civic amenities.
Following the approval, DJB will transfer 50 square metres of land at the Rithala sewage treatment plant to DMRC on a 99-year lease, and an additional 1,286 square metres temporarily for four years for viaduct construction.
DMRC will pay DJB ₹75.5 lakh for the land and will use it strictly for the approved purpose.
