British charity St Mungo’s supports more than 3,000 homeless people every day, providing healthcare and education programmes as well as a place to sleep. With homelessness in the UK at a record high, “demand for our services is skyrocketing”, says acquisition manager Ilyaz Hajat, who this year set out to encourage more regular donations to the charity. His solution? Lego.
Through the Mini Builds programme, members of the public who set up a monthly £12 donation to St Mungo’s will receive a quarterly delivery of Lego through their letterbox. “People want to engage in something that is making a difference but doing it in a joyful and hopeful way,” says Hajat, also the charity’s mini builds manager. “The sets are cute in themselves, but also, every time you see them, you’re reminded that your gift is making a difference to people’s lives.”
